Indigenous People’s Day – Bell Ringing

In celebration of the history and culture of the local Acjachemen people and all native people, join us at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, October 12, 2020 for a special bell ringing event to honor Indigenous People’s Day. In the event the Mission is closed to COVID-19, this will be a digital event.

Day of Remembrance
Tuesday, December 8, 2020
10:00 a.m.

In remembrance of the Earthquake of 1812 and the 40 victims who perished as a result of the Great Stone Church’s collapse, the historic bells will be tolled at 10am on Tuesday, December 8, 2020. Mission bell ringers will toll the bells one time for each victim who perished while the Acjachemen and Spanish names of each person will be read out loud.

St. Joseph’s Day Return of the Swallows

St. Joseph’s Day and the Return of the Swallows Celebration is a world-renowned tradition celebrating the annual return of the famous swallows to Capistrano. Book your field trip at the Mission on March 19, 2021 and enjoy special programming in addition to your normal field trip experience. Includes ringing of the historic bells, live mariachi music, community presentations, Native American Storytelling, a presentation by cliff swallow expert Dr. Charles Brown, and much more. In the event the Mission is closed to COVID-19, this will be a livestream event.
