The vision behind the “Adopt-A-Class” Scholarship Program established in 2005 was to provide free tours to schools with financial need. In the past, only Title I (low income) schools could apply for the program, however this year the Adopt-A-Class Scholarship Program has been opened up to help all schools stay connected to learning.

Our Adopt A Class Scholarship Program
The Mission’s education program, now entitled, “Remembering the Builders” reflects our entity’s sincere effort to focus on sharing the many facets of history and ensures that we are celebrating the contributions of the original builders and founders. To ensure more students have an opportunity to visit, we are proud to announce that for the next school year 2023-2024 Mission San Juan Capistrano will offer free funding for up to 150 students each day during designated months of the school year. This special funding opportunity has been underwritten by grants and donations from generous donors. As a result, more students will be able to enjoy our new audio tour “If These Walls Could Talk” and experience our Mission Matters adobe brick making class at no expense to them. This combined experience is valued at $19 per student.
Every student who visits this year will also receive a special commemorative “Remember the Builders” bracelet.
Additionally, any teacher that books their class for a field trip will also receive one-week free access to our video library featuring, “In Our Voice: Native American Basket Weaving” video, “In Our Voice: Mission Bell Ringing and Native American Singing” video, and “In Our Voice: Native American Storytelling” video series, also valued at $150.

“I had a blast at the mission and I loved it. Thank you for the free admission you gave all of us. I really enjoyed when we learned to make Adobe. Also, I liked when we learned about how the mission was built because it was fascinating.”Rubi – 4th Grade,Adopt-A-Class Scholarship Program Student
“My most favorite part that I most appreciate is you were thoughtful enough to pay for our wonderful 4th grade to be able to see how a real mission looks. It made a big difference by showing how the Native Americans and Spanish lived at the San Juan Capistrano mission.”Amy – 4th Grade, Adopt-A-Class Scholarship Program Student
“It was very fun and exciting to see the mission life back in the early 1700s, 1800s, and 1900s. I learned about how to make an adobe brick. It was interesting to listen to the audio tour for each stop. We really appreciate all the money donated.”Alejandro – 4th Grade, Adopt-A-Class Scholarship Program Student
