The vision behind the “Adopt-A-Class” Scholarship Program established in 2005 was to provide free tours to schools with financial need. In the past, only Title I (low income) schools could apply for the program, however this year the Adopt-A-Class Scholarship Program has been opened up to help all schools stay connected to learning.
Adopt-A-Class Scholarship Program
For Onsite and Distance Learning Funding for All Schools
Teachers can apply for this program by completing the application steps listed below. Teachers will be asked to provide information to support that their school does not have the necessary funds to enjoy an onsite or distance learning experience with the Mission. If the school is interested in securing funding for one of the education programs (such as Journeys to the Past, Making the Grade or Mission Matters) please indicate that as well. It is recommended that Adopt-A-Class Scholarship Program applications be sent in no later than October 31, 2021. Scholarships are awarded Fall through Spring on a first-come, first-serve basis for any Onsite or Distance Learning programs. Priority will be given to schools with demonstrated need.
HOW TO APPLY
Please send an email to Meghann Yan at firstname.lastname@example.org, fax or mail a letter addressed to the Mission’s Group Bookings at 26801 Ortega Hwy, San Juan Capistrano, CA 92675, Attention: Adopt-A-Class with the following:
1) Contact information for school and applying teacher.
2) Request letter on school letterhead, stating your class needs including number of people in group and type of programming desired.
3) If you are a Title I (low income) school please indicate this in your application, with details of the percentage of students on the free or reduced lunch program.
After this information is received, a determination will be made. We cannot consider your school unless the complete proposal is received. A letter of award will be sent to you confirming whether your award was granted. The decision is based on the proposal’s completeness and available resources.
“I had an incredible experience at the Mission. I enjoyed listening to the audio tour. I saw so many beautiful plants and flowers. I also saw a dozen cacti. Thank you so much for this amazing experience. I appreciate your donation to make this field trip possible”Brooklyn– 4th Grade,Adopt-A-Class Scholarship Program Student
“I had a blast at the mission and I loved it. Thank you for the free admission you gave all of us. I really enjoyed when we learned to make Adobe. Also, I liked when we learned about how the mission was built because it was fascinating.”Rubi – 4th Grade,Adopt-A-Class Scholarship Program Student
“My most favorite part that I most appreciate is you were thoughtful enough to pay for our wonderful 4th grade to be able to see how a real mission looks. It made a big difference by showing how the Native Americans and Spanish lived at the San Juan Capistrano mission.”Amy – 4th Grade, Adopt-A-Class Scholarship Program Student
“Thanks for the bus ride. It was very fun and exciting to see the mission life back in the early 1700s, 1800s, and 1900s. I learned about how to make an adobe brick. It was interesting to listen to the audio tour for each stop. We really appreciate all the money donated.”Alejandro – 4th Grade, Adopt-A-Class Scholarship Program Student
