Gate House:

Standard visiting hours are 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.; Wednesday through Sunday. Services provided:

Mission House Rules: Join Our Mission to keep you safe and healthy during your visit.

  • In accordance with state and local guidelines, facial covering are no longer required on the Mission grounds. Guests who are not fully vaccinated are recommended by the CDC to wear a face covering and observe social distancing.
  • A bandana, a face shield, a mesh/lace mask covering or other creative endeavors are not permitted at our facility as a substitution for a face covering.
  • No simultaneous eating, drinking, and walking.
  • Mission grounds are historic and uneven. PLEASE WATCH YOUR STEP.
  • No smoking or vaping on the grounds.
  • No alcohol permitted onsite during daily operating hours.
  • No chewing gum.
  • Do not climb, stand on, or write on historic walls, arches or fountains.
  • Do not tease the fish in the fountains.
  • Please put all trash in trash bins.

Photography and Drone Policy
Photography and video for personal enjoyment is encouraged. Photographs and videos are for personal use only and may not be sold. Portrait photography of any kind, whether income is obtained or not, requires a reservation. To ensure a positive and safe experience, the Mission prohibits the use of drones over its private property. More information.  All visitors to the Mission are advised that their photo may be taken by staff for promotional purposes as part of the effort to raise awareness of the Mission. Names are not provided. Attendance at the Mission implies consent.

Exhibit Tips:
Help preserve history and art for future generations. Please do not touch historic artifacts or works of art. Food and drink are not permitted in our exhibit spaces. No flash photography in exhibit areas.

Picnic Area:
Relax at this open-air seating area located just outside the Mission gardens. In this charming and laidback space, you’ll find picnic benches perfectly suited for a leisurely outdoor meal.

Restrooms are available at the north end of Mission San Juan Capistrano. View map. The restrooms in the North Corridor contain baby changing stations. Companion-assisted restroom facilities are available in addition to facilities designed for access by guests with mobility disabilities. Please reference our accessibility map.

Service Animals:
Service animals such as a guide dog for the blind are welcome at the Mission. No other pets allowed except on weekdays when we are open. No pets on weekends or designated event/festival days and holidays. Our dog policy is subject to change at anytime. 

The historic Mission is a family-oriented and religious site. Proper Dress Attire is required: No graphic shirts allowed. No knit, lace, mesh, sheer tops or bottoms allowed. Beach attire is not allowed.

First Aid:
If you begin to feel ill or find that you require medical assistance, please visit the Gate House.

Emergency Information:
For emergencies, dial 9-1-1. Our address is 26801 Ortega Highway, San Juan Capistrano, 92675. Please notify Guest Services of any incident, accidents, or emergency as soon as possible. Emergency and first aid kids are available as noted on the map. In case of fire or earthquake, please exit through the Gate House as noted on the map.

As a courtesy: Diaper kits, feminine products, pain reliever, Band-Aids, Purell, Kleenex, sunscreen, batteries and postage stamps are available for purchase at the Mission Store.
