Historic Bells Toll in Remembrance of the Earthqake of 1812 – Followed by Unveiling Ceremony for Mission San Juan Capistrano Historical Commission Plaque

December 8 @ 9:30 am

On December 8th, 2017 the historic bells will toll at 9:30 a.m. in remembrance of the Earthquake of 1812. On December 8, 1812, the Great Stone Church fell due to a tragic earthquake that killed over 40 people attending mass on December 8th. The church was never rebuilt. The ruins stand today as a testament to tragedy and the past.

On this day of historic significance at Mission San Juan Capistrano, there will be a special presentation by the Orange County Historical Commission following the tolling of the bells. Join us for the Unveiling Ceremony of the Mission San Juan Capistrano Historical Commission Plaque at 10:00 a.m.
