Join us online for a virtual Earth Day from butterflies and bees, to gardening, and celebrating Native American traditions, there’s something to learn for everyone or plan to visit us in person in the fall when we recognize Indigenous People’s Day and celebrate the history and culture of the local Acjachemen people by ringing the historic bells. In celebration of the history and culture of the local Acjachemen people and all native people, join us at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 for a special bell ringing event to honor Indigenous People’s Day.

Day of Remembrance
Wednesday, December 8, 2021
10:00 a.m.

In remembrance of the Earthquake of 1812 and the 40 victims who perished as a result of the Great Stone Church’s collapse, the historic bells will be tolled at 10am on Wednesday, December 8, 2021. Mission bell ringers will toll the bells one time for each victim who perished while the Acjachemen and Spanish names of each person will be read out loud.

St. Joseph’s Day and Return of the Swallows
Saturday, March 19, 2022

St. Joseph’s Day and the Return of the Swallows Celebration is a world-renowned tradition celebrating the annual return of the famous swallows to Capistrano. Book your field trip at the Mission on March 19, 2022 and enjoy special programming in addition to your normal field trip experience. Includes ringing of the historic bells, live mariachi music, community presentations, Native American Storytelling, a presentation by cliff swallow expert Dr. Charles Brown, and much more. In the event the Mission is closed due to COVID-19, this will be a livestream event. The Swallows Day Parade presented by the Fiesta Association will take place the Saturday before on Saturday, March 12, 2022.
