Join us online for a virtual Earth Day from butterflies and bees, to gardening, and celebrating Native American traditions, there’s something to learn for everyone or plan to visit us in person in the fall when we recognize Indigenous People’s Day and celebrate the history and culture of the local Acjachemen people by ringing the historic bells. In celebration of the history and culture of the local Acjachemen people and all native people, join us at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 for a special bell ringing event to honor Indigenous People’s Day.

Day of Remembrance
Thursday, December 8, 2022
10:00 a.m.

In remembrance of the Earthquake of 1812 and the 40 victims who perished as a result of the Great Stone Church’s collapse, the historic bells will be tolled at 10am on Thursday, December 8, 2022. Mission bell ringers will toll the bells one time for each victim who perished while the Acjachemen and Spanish names of each person will be read out loud.

St. Joseph’s Day and Return of the Swallows

St. Joseph’s Day and the Return of the Swallows Celebration is a world-renowned tradition celebrating the annual return of the famous swallows to Capistrano. Admission includes ringing of the historic bells, live mariachi music, community presentations, Native American Storytelling, a presentation by cliff swallow expert Dr. Charles Brown, and much more. The Swallows Day Parade presented by the Fiesta Association will take place on Saturday, March 25, 2023.

In partnership with Homefront America, the Mission is proud to display The Field of Honor, an American flag display honoring our military heroes and veterans. Join us for the unforgettable flag display in the beautiful historic setting of the Mission.
