These experiences are designed to not only serve as resources for fourth grade students in the Southern California area, many of whom have traditionally experienced the Mission as a “Rite of Passage” field trip, but for students of all ages throughout California and the world who are interested in learning about the diverse history and culture of early California. The Mission is dedicated to creating high quality content to support our teachers, parents, and students throughout the community and offer a standards-based distance learning resources.

Virtual Field Trip Package

When you book a Virtual Field Trip Package for your students, it also includes:

• Live Guided Virtual Field Trip
• Pre-Recorded Video Tour
• In Our Voice Native American Native American Basket Weaving Video

• Distance Learning Passport Activity book

These components are all designed to work together to support and extend your learning beyond a single day. 
Total Cost: $175 for 1 class (up to 35 students), $100 for additional classes from the same school

Live Online Tour

Live Guided Virtual Field Trip

During this interactive virtual tour experience a Mission guide will lead your class on an exclusive tour of the Mission, exploring history and highlighting special historic artifacts and one-of-a-kind Mission locations such as the Serra Chapel and the Ruins of the Great Stone Church. This program is a private experience for the class/school that has booked and will not be open to other classes/schools to join. This program is designed to be taught as a Zoom Meeting experience (where students can see and hear each other) for groups of up to 70 students at a time. Program aligns with CA HSS (3.2.1 ,3.2.2 ,3.2.4,
 3.3.1, 3.3.2; 4.2.1, 4.2.3, 4.2.4, 4.2.5, 4.2.6).

Duration: 1 hour and 15 minutes
Platform: Zoom
Capacity: Maximum of 2 classes of up to 35 students each per session

Pre-Recorded Experiences

Video Tour with Mission Education Director

Virtually explore the Mission at your own convenience with the Mission’s pre-recorded video tour. Each video segment highlights a different aspect of Mission history in 12 short, succinct clips. Video Tour aligns with CA HSS (4.2.1, 4.2.3, 4.2.4, 4.2.5, 4.2.6).

Duration: Approximately 1.5-5 minutes (per video clip)

In Our Voice Native American Basket Weaving Video

Mission San Juan Capistrano Native American Basket Weaving Volunteers share the rich basket weaving tradition and cultural practices of the Acjachemen people. Presented by Ellen Olivares Schneider, Juaneño Band of Mission Indians, Acjachemen Nation; Adelia Sandoval, Juaneño Band of Mission Indians, Acjachemen Nation; and Mariah Doyle Sandoval. Video presentation aligns with CA HSS (3.2.1 ,3.2.2, 4.2.1)

Native American History and Storytelling Package

When you book a Native American Storytelling Package for your students, it includes the following five pre-recorded video clips:

Enjoy this special Native American Storytelling presentation by Jacque Tahuka Enjoy this special Native American history and storytelling presentation by Jacque Tahuka Nunez, Juaneño Band of Mission Indians, Acjachemen Nation. This special video celebrates diversity while teaching about the early indigenous people of California. Package consists of five video segments. Video presentation aligns with CA HSS (3.2.1 ,3.2.2, 4.2.1).

Descendant of the original builders of the Mission, Adelia Sandoval, Juaneño Band of Mission Indians, Acjachemen Nation sings beautiful songs from her culture, talks about her people’s history, and shares a special message for students. The video also includes a very special bell ringing featuring Michael Gastelum, Juaneño Band of Mission Indians, Acjachemen Nation performing a celebratory ringing. Video presentation aligns with CA HSS (3.2.1 ,3.2.2, 4.2.1).

Mission San Juan Capistrano is dedicated to providing students with the highest quality, Mission San Juan Capistrano is dedicated to providing students with the highest quality, standards-based field trip experience. All of our distance learning and onsite programs support the California History-Social Science Content Standards and Framework (CA HSS). In addition to this, many of our education programs also align with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Our educational experiences are geared toward 3rd and 4th Grade learning, however, they can be adjusted to be appropriate for any grade level if you let our staff know when you book your field trip.
