Did you know that the centerpiece of the Mission’s central courtyard, the Fountain of the Four Evangelists was built in the spring of 1930? Under the supervision of the Mission’s then Pastor Father St. John O’Sullivan, Roger B. Sherman designed and built the fountain.

The photo below of the two men building the fountain dates to March 1930. One of the men pictured is designer Roger B. Sherman. Mr. Sherman also made and sold pottery in the Mission’s Soldiers Barracks.

This second photo shows Father O’Sullivan standing in front of the newly completed fountain. Both of these photos are from the Missions Museum Collection.

In 1931 the Ford Motor Company built their 20 millionth car. To celebrate this milestone Ford marked that very special Model A Town Sedan and sent it on a nation-wide marketing tour through 1931-1932. One of its promotional stops was Mission San Juan Capistrano! This photograph is part of the Mission’s museum collection.
