Mission San Juan Capistrano owes a huge debt
of gratitude to volunteer Jeanette McGregor, who devotes many hours
to assembling the Mission’s Passport Explorers. The Explorer is
given to children visiting the Mission and features a walking map,
interesting historical facts and games that teach about Mission
history. Since its creation, 54,000 Passports, most assembled by
Jeanette, have been distributed to visitors.
Jeanette attended Mission School as a child,
and worked as a server and manager of a San Clemente restaurant.
She was married to husband Eddie, now deceased, with whom she had
four children.
Five years ago, after her husband’s death, she
began volunteering at the historic Mission and Mission Basilica
Parish and food bank. She is also a descendant of the Juaneno Indians
who built the Mission, and is involved with one of the Juaneno tribes.
She remarked, “Now that I’m retired, I want to stay active and involved
with a good cause. I also enjoy what I’m doing.”
