Father Serra Statue Gets a Face Lift
Erected in 1913 and dedicated in 1914 to Father Junipero Serra, first Father President of the California Missions, this cast concrete statue has become a prominent feature of Mission San Juan Capistrano. Symbolic of Father Serra’s missionary devotions of guiding the Native Americans toward Christian beliefs and European ideals, the statue portrays a Franciscan friar pivoting a young Native American boy towards his skyward pointing hand and a large crucifix. West Wing Re-Roof Project
The Mission has transitioned from a planning phase into a busy summer construction campaign. Through a competitive bidding process the Mission selected the J.L. Ray Company Inc. to provide a new waterproofing roof system and to repair damaged carpentry elements on the 1975 West Wing Building. More >

El Camino Bells
In August of 2007, the Gardening Angels of Mission San Juan Capistrano generously donated $2,000.00 to restore the historic El Camino Real bells located on the Mission grounds. The monies came from the proceeds of their annual Flower, Garden, and Fine Art Show held in June. More >

South Wing Conservation
Preservation efforts by Mission Conservators and ARG Conservation Services (ARG/CS) continue at the Mission San Juan Capistrano this summer. Upon completion of the adobe conservation and plastering at the upper level of the South Wing, the team recently began restoration of the masonry columns and plastered adobe walls at the south arcade below.
