Mission Preservation Foundation Member, Michael Hagan

Michael Hagan has a long and distinguished business career, including serving as CEO for the Furon Corporation.

He was born and reared in Portland, Oregon. He graduated from the University of Santa Clara and served six years in the Marine Corps. He came to Southern California in 1979, and became president and CEO of Furon, an international company which made products out of engineered plastics.

He joined the Board at the invitation of Tony Moiso, who serves as president.

Mission San Juan Capistrano has long been a favorite place for Michael. He lives in Dana Point, and frequently attends Mass in historic Serra Chapel. He also enjoys attending the annual summer Music Under the Stars concert series, the annual Romance gala and other Mission events. Being a regular at the Mission, he takes great pleasure in seeing the progress of its preservation.

"It's a delight to see how much of the Mission has been preserved," he commented. "The Mission is a national treasure, we have an obligation to pass it on in good shape to future generations."

Michael is grateful for the Mission's leadership. He observed, "Msgr. Arthur Holquin has done much to improve the Mission since becoming pastor; our Executive Director Mechelle Lawrence has contributed much as well."

Although retired from Furon, Michael still serves on the boards of four companies. He is married, with four children and 10 grandchildren. He is an avid fisherman and traveler. He is a member of the Roman Catholic Order of Malta, and supports Taller San Jose, which teaches trades to young people at risk.

Executive Director Mechelle Lawrence expressed her gratitude for Michael's service on the Board, remarking, "Mr. Hagan has an astute sense of what is appropriate for the Mission in terms of its programs, operations and aesthetics. His contributions to the Board have greatly shaped the implementation of the Five Year Strategic Plan."
