Lula and husband Marion, who died in 2007, opened their first jewelry store in Jackson, Mississippi. In 1979, they moved to California and opened another jewelry store in Newport Beach. Traditional Jewelers is noted for their branded jewelry and watches, and, as Lula noted, "for our service, quality and integrity."

Lula is an enthusiastic supporter of the Mission. She explained, "The Mission is a rich part of California's history. I'm pleased to join in efforts to preserve the old Mission, and to share its story with others."

Lula is a resident of Newport Beach. She has one adult son, Erik, who works in her business. Lula is a board member of the Marconi for Kids Foundation, a member of the Board of Governors of Chapman University, and is active in Newport Beach business groups.

Mozelle Sukut, a volunteer with the Mission's Artifacts Council, commented, "Lula is a talented and respected business person in the Orange County community. She is also generous in her support of many non-profit organizations, and has a special place in her heart for the historic Mission. I'm pleased to have the opportunity to work with her to make the Mission an even better place we can pass on to future generations."
