 | | St. Josephs Day and The Return of the Swallows Celebration | | Tuesday, March 19, 2013 | 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
| This annual celebration includes: ringing of the historic bells, live mariachi music, flamenco performances, community presentations, Mission Basilica School performances, San Juan Elementary performances, history of St. Josephs Day and Swallows Legend, local food vendors and special Guest Lecture On Cliff Swallows by Dr. Charles Brown.
| Bells will ring upon opening.
Our story begins in 1775, when Mission San Juan Capistrano was first founded by Father Lasuen, on October 19th. Weeks later, the founding party left San Juan Capistrano to help their colleagues in San Diego after receiving word of a revolt occuring there.
Once things had settled in San Diego, Father Junipero Serra, a Franciscan priest over 50 years old when he traveled from New Spain (now Mexico) to Alta California, personally led a party to re-found Mission
