Member, Peter Bastone
Peter Bastone has served as President and Chief
Executive Officer of Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in
Mission Viejo since 1996. He joined the Board at the invitation
of George O'Connell, founder of O'Connell Landscape Maintenance,
who serves on both the Mission board and on the board of the Mission
Hospital Foundation.
"Mission San Juan Capistrano has a rich historical,
religious and cultural tradition and is one of our community's most
treasured assets," Bastone commented. "I'm pleased to join the efforts
to save the old Mission, so we may pass it on as a better place
to future generations."
Bastone was born and reared in Chicago. His father
was a homicide detective; his mother still works for City Hall.
After considering a life in the Roman Catholic priesthood and playing
as a linebacker for the Baltimore Colts, he opted for a career in
Catholic hospital ministry.
He earned a B.A. degree in psychology from Princeton
University. He also holds Master's degrees in Public Health and
Business Administration from the University of California at Berkeley,
and a Master's degree in Health Care Mission from the Aquinas Institute
of Theology in St. Louis. He served as Chief Executive Officer of
Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital in Inglewood, a Catholic hospital
sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, before coming
to Mission Hospital sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange.
Bastone has been married to wife Julie for 18
years; the couple has four children ages 5-17. Outside of work,
he enjoys sports activities with his children, and reading historical
and detective novels. He is a resident of Mission Viejo.
Bastone's extensive community involvement includes
serving as consultant to the Summer Olympic Games Organizing Committee,
board chairman of the Hospital Association of Southern California,
JSerra High School Board of Trustees, Princeton Club of Southern
California, Princeton National Schools Committee, vice president
